It's Pet Dental Health Month!

Don't forget about your pet's dental health! Although we don't offer pet cleanings here at Modern Essence Dentistry, we'd love to offer a reminder to call your vet and set up an appointment! Look at our staff's happy pets!!

It's National Children's Dental Health Month

"Brush your teeth with flouride toothpaste and clean between your teeth for a healthy smile!"

The American Dental Association wants you to "Defeat Monster Mouth" by promoting good dental habits. Baby teeth do eventually fall out, but children need them to eat and speak so they should be taken care of properly. Maintain good oral health by brushing, flossing, rinsing, and eating healthy snacks.

Cavities develop when sugary foods stay in the mouth for too long. Bacteria that live on the teeth feast on these bits of foods and can eat away at tooth enamel. For extra protection on permanent molars and pre-molars, Sealants are a great option. They help to protect and "seal out" plaque and food debris.

Whether your child just has a few baby teeth poking through or is getting in permanent teeth, keeping up with good dental habits will last a lifetime.

What is a Root Canal?

When the root canal of a tooth becomes infected, it can lead to serious dental problems including bone and tooth loss. In order to treat deep infections within a tooth, root canal therapy may be required. This treatment can save a tooth from extraction, but it can't preserve tissue that has already been lost to decay. In many cases, a dental crown is the best way to ensure the future health of a tooth following a root canal. Crowns offer structural support, protection, preservation, durability, and realistic appearance.

If you're looking for a way to bridge the gap created by missing teeth, a bridge is the answer. Two or more crowns on either side of the gap hold and support a false tooth. Bridges help to restore you smile, allow you to properly chew and speak, distribute the forces in your bite, and prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.

Leaving a compromised tooth untreated is an option, but not without serious risk. Ultimately, the danger of losing the tooth runs much higher than if you commit to preserving it. More of the tooth may break away or a cavity may form in the exposed area. Every traumatic event a tooth experiences puts more strain on the fragile nerve inside, making an abscess more likely.

Are your teeth not up to snuff? Now is a great time to assess those troubled areas and see if a crown or bridge is right for you. Give us a call today at 1-630-592-8109.

February is American Heart Month!

With all the love going around, it's no surprise that February is American Heart Month. But did you know there's a correlation between dental health and heart health? They are connected through the spread of bacteria and other germs from your mouth through the blood stream. When this bacteria reaches the heart, it can attach to damaged areas and cause inflammation, resulting in other illnesses.

Patients with gingivitis and periodontal disease have the highest risk for heart disease caused by poor oral health. Regular dental examinations are the best way to prevent gum disease, along with brushing twice a day and flossing. Be proactive for your oral and heart health. Share your smile and spread the love.

Lasers & Gum Diesase

We have recently added laser therpy to help kill gum disease bacteria and stop infection. Laser decontamination decreases the bacteria count from 1 billion to just one hundred! It also helps prevent cross contamination of infections in one area of your mouth to other areas and reduces or eliminates bacteremia (bacteria in the bloodstream after dental cleanings). The process is painless and takes about 5 minutes. We highly recommend that you take advantage of this service!
